How To Use The Adamantine Forge BG3 Complete Forge Guide
9 August 2026 | 45
Discovering the ancient mechanical marvels hidden deep within the Underdark is one of the most rewarding milestones in Baldur's Gate 3. The Adamantine Forge allows players to craft exceptionally powerful gear that can easily carry their party through the challenges of Act 2 and beyond. However, operating this complex machinery requires specific materials, careful positioning, and preparation for a formidable boss encounter.
Gathering the Required Materials
Before you can activate the structure, you must search the surrounding Grymforge area for rare crafting components. You will need to locate specific item moulds scattered across the environment, which determine the shape of the weapon or armor you create. Additionally, you must mine at least one chunk of Mithral Ore from the blue-glowing rocks found in the nearby chasms.
Each crafting attempt consumes one piece of ore and one mould, meaning you must choose your gear wisely based on your party needs. Keep an eye out for the heavy armor and medium armor options, as these provide excellent defensive bonuses that prevent critical hits. Planning your resource collection beforehand guarantees a smooth crafting experience once you reach the central platform.
Operating the Forge Controls
Once you arrive at the heart of the facility, you must interact with the components in a precise sequence to avoid jamming the mechanism. Start by placing your chosen equipment mould into the dedicated chamber and inserting the raw ore into the central crucible. After securing these items, pull the massive lever on the side to drop the entire platform down to the lower lava level.
When the platform settles into place, your next objective is to flood the area by turning the large valve located near the edge. Opening this valve releases a stream of superheated lava that heats the crucible and makes the metal workable. However, turning the valve also triggers the automated defense system, instantly summoning the guardian of the structure.
Defeating the Guardian Grym
The massive construct known as Grym protects the facility and is completely immune to regular damage unless it is superheated by the surrounding lava. You must lure the boss into the center of the arena so that it stands directly beneath the giant piston hammer. Positioning a character near the central lever allows you to pull it and strike the softened automaton for massive bludgeoning damage.
Be aware that striking the boss with the primary hammer clears the flowing lava, requiring you to turn the valve again to keep the target vulnerable. Managing your party positioning is crucial here, as Grym will automatically target the last character that dealt damage to it during the round. Utilizing ranged attacks or defensive spells can help guide the guardian safely toward the central trap.
Finalizing Your Crafted Equipment
After successfully defeating the construct, you can pull the primary lever once more to strike the crucible and complete the forging process. Your newly minted legendary item will appear in the collection box, ready to enhance your favorite character's combat effectiveness. You can then interact with the mould ejection button to prepare the machine for a potential second use if you have extra raw materials.
To return to the upper level of the Underdark, simply interact with the button next to the primary lever to raise the entire floor back to its original position. Taking full advantage of this unique crafting hub provides a massive tactical boost for the difficult journeys ahead. Equipping your frontline fighters with this gear ensures your party is well-prepared for the dangers waiting in the shadow-cursed lands.
